Perhaps there is a slightly not so great contact in the wires that lead to the lighting. My only theory is in the contact points of the wiring of the house. So it would be asking for a given current, which the PSU is trying to keep up with. The video card seems to be the biggest consumer. So, a PSU beefing up consumption would mean it would have to be feeding that electricity to something that's converting it to heat. Ultimately, all consumed electricity is converted to heat, pretty much, because that's the law of nature - one can not create or destroy energy, only convert it. I'm not sure how one PSU could influence this more or less. My son's PC has a GTX 970 and with certain games, elements of the game play cause the room's lighting to dim along with it. I too would like to see this thread revived as there isn't any answer here. On scale of 1 to fire hazard, how concerned should I be? Issue involves my PC essentially shutting itself off when I stress it enough, which it didn't use to do (applying the same levels of stress). I'm unsure if it's the electrical causing the PSU to have issues, or vise versa. The lights only started flickering when I ran into the issue with my PC, which I suspect is the power supply unit but haven't confirmed. This has only been an issue for the past couple weeks. If I turn off the ceiling lights and plug a desk lamp in, the lamp will flicker too. I should only be drawing ~650 at the high end with it. I was advised it may be a potential electrical hazard and decided to come here for advice.Ĭircuit is 15 amps and only has the PC and that room's lights running on it. I've been troubleshooting my PC online for the last few days, and one of the issues I mentioned when trying to diagnose it was that while the PC is under load the lights in the room will flicker.
